Live  demonstrations
 of eco-driving support on the roads of Aachen took place in the afternoon of 20 November and on 21 November all day. 

eCoMove vehicles presented how the driver receives anticipative and corrective eco-driving advice based on vehicle data (acceleration-deceleration), electronic horizon (speed limits, topography) and cooperative traffic lights state using V2X technologies.

 Participants were able to:

  • visualise upcoming traffic lights at equipped intersections and of future most probable paths of eCoMove partner vehicles in the ecoCooperativeHorizon
  • get explanations on consumption calculation in the eco Navigation, providing ecoRouting (emission and consumption optimized route) considering slopes, curvatures, and predicted road traffic situation
  • see post-trip information on driver's general eco score as well as progress against previous eco score

    BMW/HERE
    • The new application eCoAssist allows for forward looking eco-driving when connected to the digital map and Car2X communication with respect to the vehicle’s longitudinal dynamics. The driver receives speed advice on approaching the cooperative traffic signals to optimise fuel consumption.
    • Also presented in the demonstration are the ecoNavigation (emission- and consumption-optimised routing), the ecoCooperative Horizon (providing in-vehicle components with a logical view of the road ahead) as well as the ecoInformation application (to efficiently tune the energy consumers inside the vehicle).

    FORD
    • The ecoDriving Support system combines all relevant information on the road ahead, evaluates the most probable upcoming situation and advises the driver on the necessary actions to optimise fuel consumption, e.g. the optimal speed to maintain to get through green traffic lights or the time until traffic signal switches to red.
    • ecoInformation advises the driver on how to tune additional energy consumers like seat heating or climate control as they result in higher fuel consumption and are thus indicated as an actual saving potential value.
    • ecoPostTrip gives the driver an opportunity to look back and reflect on his own driving behaviour

    IKA
    The demonstrated driver assistance system is based upon the eSiM (ecoSituational) prediction model, making use of the different sensors and actuators available in the vehicle. The HMI implementations, the system concept and its advantages and challenges are presented. Cooperative messages and the digital map are also demonstrated, as well as the concept to exchange information applied within eCoMove:
    1. cooperative messages from traffic signals are received and processed
    2. corresponding recommendations are provided on the vehicle central display
    3. underlying calculations in different software systems can be visualised

    • ecoDriver Coaching provides the driver with anticipative and corrective eco-driving advices based on vehicle data (acceleration-deceleration), electronic horizon (speed limits, topography) and cooperative traffic lights state using V2X technologies.
    • Based on truck-specific attributes, traffic state information as well as constraints and requirements stemming from the Fleet manager, the Truck ecoNavigation calculates the most efficient route in terms of travel time and fuel consumption.
    • Post-trip information on driver’s performance: 
      • Information on the trip (duration, distance, total and average fuel consumption, average speed, etc)
      • general eco score and in terms of acceleration, anticipation, idling, inertia, retarder, shifting, speed
      • progress against previous eco score
